Art Glass Swan Candy Dish

  • Details
This is an obvious early attempt at this form by the artist or a students piece. This swan may be instead be the infamous Loch Ness monster? All of the included bubbles, tool marks, drips, sags, hard angles. The rough inelegant attempt at organic curves has a certain charm that makes one reevaluate the challenges of working with a molten hot quickly solidifying media. In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi (侘寂) is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" I believe this concept embodies the appeal of this uniquely “ugly” piece.
